Radiation Protection for users of Portable Nuclear Gauges

Course Objective

This course aims to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and understanding to ensure both their own safety and the safety of their staff members while working with or supervising the usage of portable density moisture gauges containing radioactive material. Typical sectors that utilise portable nuclear gauges:

  • Array Radiation Geotechnical services;

  • Array Radiation Soil testing;

  • Array Radiation Civil construction;

  • Array Radiation Agriculture;

  • Array Radiation Research institutes.

Course Structure

The program has been structured as an independent set of modules with no prerequisites. Following an introduction to various aspects of radiation, the course progresses through principles and safe practices related to management and use of PDMG. Completion of this course is mandatory for whoever needs to apply for a use licence to operate portable nuclear gauges. This course is aligned with the Code of Practice for Portable Density Moisture Gauges Containing Radioactive Sources.

  • Array Radiation Regulatory compliance and licensing requirements;

  • Array Radiation Codes of practice and safety guides;

  • Array Radiation Responsibilities of employer, employee, and radiation safety officer;

  • Array Radiation Detection and monitoring;

  • Array Radiation Responsibilities of employer, employee, and radiation safety officer;

  • Array Radiation Radiation management plans;

  • Array Radiation PDMG specifics and safety considerations;

  • Array Radiation Workbook, exercises, and competency tests;

  • Array Radiation Transport of portable nuclear gauges;

  • Array Radiation Workbook, exercises, and competency tests.

Assessment

There are multiple practical exercises and competency tests that will be assigned to attendees throughout the day.

Certification

The participant who successfully passes the course will be granted a certificate of attainment which can be used as a proof of training or for licence application purposes.
